Our Solemn Hour by Within Temptation

Sanctus Espiritus
Redeem us from our solemn hour
(I speak to you for the first time as Prime Minister in a solemn hour for the life of our country.)

Sanctus Espiritus
Insanity is all around us
Sanctus Espiritus! Sanctus Espiritus! Sanctus Espiritus!

In my darkest hours I could not foresee
That the tide could turn so fast to this degree
Can’t believe my eyes
How can you be so blind?
Is the heart of stone, no empathy inside?
Time keeps on slipping away and we haven’t learned
So in the end now what have we gained?

Sanctus Espiritus, redeem us from our solemn hour
Sanctus Espiritus, insanity is all around us
Sanctus Espiritus, is this what we deserve,
Can we break free from chains of never-ending agony?

Are they themselves to blame, the misery, the pain?
Didn’t we let go, allowed it, let it grow?
If we can’t restrain the beast which dwells inside
It will find it’s way somehow, somewhere in time
Will we remember all of the suffering
Cause if we fail it will be in vain

Sanctus Espiritus, redeem us from our solemn hour
Sanctus Espiritus, insanity is all around us
Sanctus Espiritus, is this what we deserve,
Can we break free from chains of never-ending agony?

Sanctus Espiritus! Sanctus Espiritus! (A tremendous battle is raging in France and Flanders. The Germans, by a remarkable combination of air bombing and heavily armored tanks, have broken through the French defenses north of the Maginot Line, and strong columns of their armored vehicles are ravaging the open country, which for the first day or two was without defenders...)

Sanctus Espiritus, redeem us from our solemn hour
Sanctus Espiritus, insanity is all around us
Sanctus Espiritus, is this what we deserve,
Can we break free the chains of never-ending agony?

Sanctus Espiritus, redeem us from our solemn hour
Sanctus Espiritus, insanity is all around us
Sanctus Espiritus, is this what we deserve,
Can we break free from chains of never-ending agony?

Junk

"I choose my friends for their good looks, my acquaintances for their good characters and my enemies for their good intellect" - Oscar Wilde.

Quite the contrary, my enemies become my enemies because of their percieved stupidity. If you want to be condescending to me, fair enough, sometimes i deserve it. But if you are condescending to both me and my friends, then i will have you know that you had better watch your tongue and your actions before i lash out at you. And you, with all your superior intellect, won't be able to withstand that.

And yes, this is a very thinly veiled threat. I am not above bullying and violence.

Losers, lamers, wankers, aren't we all?

One More Moment by Ronin

Don't take too long to say
I love you to the ones you love
Cause time has a habit of slipping away

And out on the clear blue sky
When lightning strikes on a sunny day
Just take me in and keep me from the rain

And the words that seem so hard to say
Come out when you've gone away
Just stay a little while and hear me say

That I want you here tonight
And I need you by my side
For just one more moment
For just one more moment with you

Turn away to say goodbye
With each and every word that passes by
Like a distant memory

And time keeps slipping away
And time will turn to grey
And time will be the one who holds you down

And the words that seem so hard to say
Come out when you've gone away
Just stay a little while and hear me say

That I want you here tonight
And I need you by my side
For just one more moment
For just one more moment

That I want you here tonight
And I need you by my side
For just one more moment
For just one more moment with you

Sometimes time will treat you bad
Before you even know what's wrong
And in the end it hits you hard
Please tell me you'll be strong

Sometimes time will treat you bad
Before you even know what's wrong
And in the end it hits you hard
Please tell me you'll be strong

School Schmull

I think the best part of exams would be the daydreaming about what to do once the exams are over :D

And i resolve to do absolutely nothing! For a month! Lol or at least for the first few days of the holidays... I need a 16hour sleep marathon on the 8th of December man.

Speaking of exams, i'm pretty fucked for finals. Revision is all over the place plus there's notimenotimenotimenotime plus i'm damn bloody bored plus i'm not motivated at all.

Cake Is Love

Mizzzz Chia Hui Min, happy 19th birthday. You are old farts, you. =)

And a pretty pretty lady deserves a pretty pretty cake. Albeit one which is a little soft due to all the lugging around from Tampines to Clementi in the hot Singapore weather lol

Of course, not forgetting the mandatory unglam shot of our birthday girl. Happy birthday!

I have decided to audition for nus arts fest!!! It's a bilingual play produced by a rather distinguished Singaporean director whose name escapes me at the moment.. Sooo can you imagine how professional the audition is gonna be like?!?!? Goshhh, wish me luck!!!!

And i luv big hair and stupid expressions. Hahaha i am such a narcissistic whore <3

Something Vaguely Intellectual

What is the point of an education?

For 12 years, i have copied textbooks and memorized formulas, because i had blind faith that if i did that i'd get somewhere in life. The age old adage of scoring good grades to go to a good school to get a good job was something i blindly subscribed to. And i don't mind.. I don't count these 12 years as a waste, because i was too immature to know any better and i've gained experiences and friends along the way that i wouldn't want to lose.

But when you get to university and you start to think for yourself.. Don't you start to wonder WHY university is an exact replica of your 12 years of "studying"?

University or higher education SHOULDN'T be about blindly memorizing, jotting down random tidbits of info and commiting it to memory. It should be about developing your higher order thinking, contemplating the happenings of the world and making you think... Helping you to shape your point of view and why you think that way.

Don't you think something is WRONG if you're repeating the goddamn vicious cycle of mugging for exams, getting a grade and then forgetting everything you've learnt??? Don't you think there's a flaw in the system if we, as mature thinking adults, are just regurgitating shit that we dont apply onto a piece of paper and not thinking more about it?!?!

At which point, has it become a moral dilemma to choose between enjoyment and studies? Why is it, that when i want to spare some time to watch a movie, i have to think so long and hard about it and whether it will push my mugging schedule back. (well, i did watch the movie after all lol rec is fucking creepy go catch it if youre a decent horror fan)

Why is it that it's so difficult for chm to put her books aside to celebrate her bday when its that ONE special day every yr. Why is it so hard for me to decide whether to audition for Nus Arts Festival 09 or stay home to study, when we all know how impt drama is to me. How did we get so brainwashed into thinking that studying for exams is the supreme importance in the world and if we sacrificedour study time to do something we like, our insides oughta be gnawed away by guilt.

I don't know... Im confused i guess.. My life is not centred around my exam; it shouldn't be. I want something meaningful where im doing stuff that makes a bigger difference. I want an education where the point is NOT to educate per se, but to teach me how to be prepared for life's BIGGER PICTURE.

People see this problem.. They see how theyre not really learning... They see it... But they ignore it because its not their fucking business.. They can't be bothered to think about it.. Doesn't that sound familiar... The not thinking part? That our graduates are all sheep who CANNOT think outside their textbooks...

That day, when i was in Popular buying correction tape, i noticed a very disturbing trend.. It's school holidays for the kids in sec schs and pri schs but their parents force feed them with assessment books FOR THE NEXT YEAR. Like wtf... There are even things called "holiday assessment packs" with maths, english, science for primary 1 kids...

I saw a woman in the line in front of me, carrying pri sch assessment books and her son came up to her with a monopoly game box and asked her to buy it.. She shushed him up and told him to put it back, that he had enough games.. I almost cried for that little boy because his childhood is ruined... Because children in Singapore are no longer allowed to play and kiasuism is killing all of them.

I saw another family buying a eye relaxation thingy AND a stack of assessment books.. What an irony... If you dont forcefeed your kid with that shitload of assessment books, do you think youd need that eye relaxation thingum?

I think... If i ever have kids, i will not want them to go through this kind of education system. I dont care if my kids choose to be a professional poker player, a starving artist or a doctor, i swear that i am going to be supportive. Because i want to have an education in LIFE not in management science or algae even...

And i thank the higher powers for ppl like hui min who can understand what im saying and for her to actually acknowledge that theres a problem.. Unlike ppl like my ogl is a complete gone case man might as well work for the govt tmr..

Poetry In Motion

Today, while the scraggly trees lining the streets were racing past the car window, i thought how nice if time would stop right now.

You know, when the eerie glow of night time had fallen and everything is bathed in the orangey rays from the streetlights.

When the music is good and the company decent and we could carry on talking candidly about anything. Perhaps the first time too, with anybody from school.

Then i had the image of breaking mirrors; cobwebs of cracks snaking across my reflection and bits of glass sticking from sore bits of my knuckles. No sensation of warm blood though, i dont typically bleed very much.

And the moment passed. I got out and left and we both returned to our respective lives. Compartmentalized and neat, with its clear defined lines and whatnot.

Surely, life has more than this to offer. No?

Decode by Paramore

From the soundtrack of Twilight, the movie.

How can I decide what's right?
When you're clouding up my mind
Can't win your losing fight all the time
Not gonna ever own what's mine
When you're always taking sides
You won't take away my pride
No, not this time
Not this time

How did we get here?
I used to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know

The truth is hiding in your eyes
And its hanging on your tongue
Just boiling in my blood
But you think that I can't see
What kind of man that you are
If you're a man at all
Well, I will figure this one out on my own
(I'm screaming "I love you so")
All on my own
(But my thoughts you can't decode)

How did we get here?
I used to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know

Do you see what we've done?
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves
Do you see what we've done?
We're gonna make such fools of ourselves

How did we get here?
I used to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I used to know you so well
I think I know
I think I know

There is something, I see in you
It might kill me but I want it to be true
